Alex Clare is a British singer and musician from south-west London now living in north-west London, UK. The Too Close Songfacts says that he took up the trumpet and drums as a youngster, but as he grew older he graduated to guitar-based songwriting, playing open-mike nights with original material. Clare dated Amy Winehouse for a year during these early days, after meeting her during a performance at The Hawley Arms in Camden, North London. A demo earned him a deal with the Island label in the U.K.

His debut album, from which he has released the track ‘Up All Night’, has been produced by Diplo and Switch. He has released three videos, for ‘Up All Night’ for ‘Relax My Beloved’ and for ‘Too Close.’

The track was first released in the United Kingdom on 15 April 2011 as the second single from Clare’s debut studio album, The Lateness of the Hour (2011). The track was written by Alex Clare and Jim Duguid and produced by Diplo & Switch and Mike Spencer. On July 9, 2012 it was certified gold by the RIAA.

In March 2012, “Too Close” was selected as the soundtrack to Microsoft’s advertisement for Internet Explorer 9, released the following month. The feature saw the track achieve international success. By September 1, 2012, the song had reached number 20 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It had previously peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart and at number 1 in Germany. In May 2012, an instrumental version of the song was used in an advertisement for the UK version of the television series Revenge.
